The Saturday afternoon of September 13 belonged not only to parishioners of all age groups but also to our planet. Together we created, painted, learned, matched animal tracks, and left our marks.
The main guest was Mrs. Markéta Cíchová, who did not come alone, but brought several representatives of the terrestrial world with her. Her captivating talk about the rescue of not only birds captivated both children and adults. Together we released kestrels, sparrows, and shrikes back into the wild. We learned how a fox hunts, felt the fur of a badger, and petted a hedgehog, who carefully sniffed us all. We even saw its unique behavior when it threw saliva on its spines, which is a way hedgehogs familiarize themselves with new scent stimuli.
Just when the evening seemed like nothing better could come, Mrs. Markéta arrived with bat detectors, so we had a walk to the pond, where we identified different species of bats according to various frequencies. And why did we go to the water? Because there is a lot of insects that bats hunt.
It was an afternoon full of joy, sharing, admiration, learning, and gratitude for our common home.
