Lysá hora/Praděd – Approximately three hundred people hiked to Lysá hora and Praděd on the last holiday Monday to pray for the country and society in which they live. The highest peaks of the Beskydy and Jeseníky mountains became places of prayer for their homeland. The Ostrava-Opava diocese thus concluded its celebrations of 30 years since its founding. On August 31, 1996, the first diocesan bishop, František Václav Lobkowicz, was appointed.
On Praděd, pilgrims set out from Karlova Studánka; approximately forty people started hiking from the parking lot. Another thirty joined them at the Barborka hut and in other sections of the trail. In total, about one hundred pilgrims formed a circle on the meadow below the transmitter, the highest point of the Jeseníky mountains, at 3:00 PM. The prayer was led by Auxiliary Bishop Antonín Basler of Olomouc.
“God does not dwell in the clouds above us, but in our hearts,” Bishop Antonín urged, emphasizing the importance of a close relationship with Christ just as mountain clouds were swirling around. With a view down into the valleys of the Jeseníky mountains, everyone joined together in prayer, reciting the Lord’s Prayer and praying for their homeland.
Pilgrims accompanied by Bishop Martin David made their way to Lysá hora from Ostravice. Some chose shorter routes; for example, the Havířov parish started from the opposite side of the hill, selecting Papežov as its starting point for their hike, while others arrived by bicycle. A total of about two hundred people gathered at the highest peak of the Beskydy mountains for a group photo. The prayer for the diocese was preceded by hymns with the Efrém choir from Frýdek.
“Today we climbed two mountains: Lysá hora and Praděd. And perhaps here, we can better understand what it means to pray for our homeland. On the mountain, we see further. We see the land in which we live. But at the same time, we see how small we are. How vast is the world that God has entrusted to us. And perhaps that’s why the mountain is a place of prayer. To intercede means to bring someone else before God. Not just yourself. Not just your family. Not just what you need. But to take our entire homeland before God,” Bishop Martin emphasized in his address.
The bishop present urged those present to use the shared prayer for their homeland and to pray it during the Season of Creation, which lasts from the beginning of September to October 4. prayer for the homeland and pray it also during the Season of Creation.
